Exercise 2

Reflect Your Choice: I selected the story “Good With Boys” because I felt like I understood the plot of this story the best and knew exactly which way I wanted to go with the artists book. I really liked how there was so much room for interpretation when it came to the plot and what was happening within the story. When I went back and looked at each story we had run thus far, this was the only one I was drawn too and knew that I could really create something good. When I re-looked at this story I saw that I could make a “journal”-esque piece that reflected what was happening within Jill’s mind and her thoughts of the trip. So I used that to create my Artists Book.

Reflect, Bookmaking: This story is told through the eyes of the main character Jill and her mission to get a boy, Esau Abraham, to like her on their school trip to the planetarium. I knew I wanted to make something that represented Jill’s mindset and what made her go after Esau and then how she felt once he rejected her. I decided the like a journal type, or dream journal, with pictures and small snippets of dialogue that represented what was happening and what she was feeling would be the best way to show my understanding of the story and Jill’s emotions. I hope that my readers of this Artist Book can see that I was taking Jill’s emotions and plan into account when making this book.
