This transition to college is hard for everyone

The transition to college from high school is something that isn’t talked about enough. Students are moving out of their childhood home, into a small dorm with another person, who is most likely a stranger. And are expected to start learning and doing your best immediately. Every single student here at UNE understands this change, we all went through it. And the best thing to do is to understand that this is a large change, but you are able to do it.

The best thing to do, when being faced with this type of situation, would be to find your people. Find people on your floor, in your classes, in the clubs or sports you are a part of and start to create connections. Once these connections form, college becomes a breeze. The hardest part might be waiting for the right people to come around, but once they do you are truly able to explore and love college as much as you have been told you will like it. Being able to find people who have similar interests and goals as you is important. And the more people you get out there to meet, the more people you will meet. Your future best friend could be the neighbor of a friend in class. Being able to just put yourself out there and truly let yourself make connections is so important. The addition of new friends is something that will really help you have an easier transition into this style of life.
