“I chose UNE because I am from Maine and wanted to stay local in Maine for college. UNE is also the only school in Maine that offers the PA program. My transition from highschool to college was difficult as it is for most people. Coming from growing up and always being more independent in life it did make the transition from high school to college a lot easier than I expected. Another way I helped myself was being able to use the resources on campus and being able to set up a scheduling method for all my work. Some advice I would offer to incoming first year students is that it is ok to not know what you want to do for a major but try to decide by the start of sophomore year so you will be able to graduate on time. Coming into UNE was tough because I didn’t really know anyone or where to go for classes. I definitely suggest putting yourself out there and talking to new people and being able to go out of your comfort zone to make new friends and find others who need the help as well to help each other out.”

“I chose UNE because it has the best program for my major. Another reason I chose to come to school in Maine is because of the location of the school and my love for the beach and having access to many beaches in the area of campus. I knew I felt at home when I first visited UNE because it seemed like a great community and I wanted to be a part of it and I have loved it ever since. Some advice I would give to incoming first year students is to prioritize your studies but make sure you leave time to have a good social life and enjoy your college experience. Making the same mistake as me and not taking it seriously to start can be tough because you have to end up digging yourself out of a hole that is challenging to do. My favorite part of living on campus is the many different opportunities I have to be able to try different things such as clubs and other activities. The best part of UNE is that I have met some of my lifelong best friends here and they will be in my life forever and I am so excited for all the more memories I will be able to make with them and I cherish the memories I have made with them already.”
